Paruppu Podi

This recipe is a ready mix powder that can be mixed with rice and served as side dish for dosai and idli and also can be added in curry, gravy etc. It is rich in protein as it uses fried gram and toor dal and is ideal for diet conscious people as it literally contains no oil. Paruppu podi recipe is simple but uses are more. Do this and enjoy and live healthy.

Yields: 100 g of powder

Ingredients:

  • Fried gram 1/2 cup
  • Toor dal 1/2 cup
  • Red chili 5-6
  • Asafetida powder 1 spoon
  • Salt to taste

Method

Heat an empty kadai for some time after heating simmer the stove.

Dry roast fried gram and toor dal separately in low flame so that it does not turn black but roasted to light brown.

Dry roast red chili.

Switch off the stove and roast salt in the latent heat till it dries.

Combine everything with asafetida powder and grind to fine powder and store in an airtight container and can be stored dried for one month.

How to use: Take a cup of rice and mix with two spoons of powder with little oil or ghee just for lubrication; otherwise, it tightens the throat. It has very less calorie and can be served with any raitha, mor kuzhambu, vatha kuzhambu, pappad etc.

When doing curries (poriyal) can use this powder with little red chili powder.

When doing gravies this powder can be mixed with water and poured in gravy to thicken and to add some protein in you diet.

Mix a spoon of this powder with little oil and can be used as side dish for idli and dosai.
