Dhokla is a typical Gujarati recipe made with Besan (Gram Flour). There are many Dhokla recipes. This Dhokla recipe is a highly nutritious and tasty breakfast ideal for diet conscious person and children and also for older people. It is rich in protein so good for all ages gives very filled feeling so ideal for breakfast. By adding vegetables it makes even more nutritious. Recipe of multigrain dokhla.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves: 2-3 persons


  • Gram dal 1/4 cup
  • Toor dal 1/4 cup
  • Moong dal 1/4 cup
  • Urid dal 1/4 cup
  • Fresh green peas 1/4 cup
  • Red chilies 2-3
  • Ginger 1” piece
  • Garlic 3-4 pods
  • Salt to taste
  • Onion 1 fine chopped
  • Carrot 1 grated
  • Potato 1 grated
  • Chow-chow 1/2 grated


Soak dals and green peas for 1/2 hour. If using dried peas soak it for at least six hours.

Grind the soaked dal and peas along with red chilies, ginger, garlic and salt.

Add the grated vegetables well with the ground mixture.

Spread this mixture on to a flat greased vessel.

Cook this in steam using a cooker for 15-20 minutes.

When it is done cut it into pieces and serve. No side dish is necessary but if taking as breakfast coconut chutney or tomato chutney or sauce can be spread over it and served.
