Orange fruit pudding is a yummy dessert flavored with natural orange juice and you don’t need an oven for this. This delicious and soft pudding is steamed in a cooker and tastes best when served with cold custard.

Serves: 4-6


  • ½ cup flour
  • 6 bread slices
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 orange
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup mixed dry fruits (raisins, cherries etc)
  • 2 tsp candied peel
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • Few cashew nuts


Grease the pudding mould. Cover the base with butter paper. Pour golden syrup on it. Arrange cashew nuts or walnut pieces over the syrup in an attractive pattern.

Break the bread slices in fine crumbs. Sift the flour with baking powder. Grate the rind and extract juice from the orange. Add water if necessary to the juice to make it one cup.

Beat the butter and sugar till light. Add the beaten eggs little at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the grated orange rind and beat well. Add the fruits, breadcrumbs and peel. Fold in the flour alternatively with orange juice. Pour in the prepared mould. Cover the mould with a lid or foil.

Pour enough water in the cooker to fill up to ½ the level of the mould. Place mould in the water over an upturned cooking plate and cover with the lid. When water starts boiling, shift the cooker on to a hot pan and steam over a low flame.

Switch off the stove after one hour and remove the mould from the cooker. After 5 minutes invert onto a serving plate. Serve warm with cold custard.
