Phirni is a popular dessert from North India. This apple phirni is loaded with taste, but have no sugar. If you are calorie conscious, try out this simple sugar free recipe without compromising the taste. Phirni can be flavored with seasonal fruits of choice.

  • 1 litre skimmed milk
  • 100 g rice
  • 100 g apple
  • 1 banana
  • A pinch of saffron
  • 2 g green cardamom powder


Soak rice or two hours and drain the water. Dry in shade and crush it coarsely. Soak the saffron in 50 ml hot milk.

Cook the rice and milk together on a slow flame and add the saffron milk to it. Puree the banana. Grate the peeled apple. Add the banana to the cooked mixture (this acts as a sweetener) and the grated apple (adds extra nutrition). Add cardamom powder, chill and serve.

  1. The recipe given here is really simple and cool. I would like to know how to make “Rasam”, a South Indian soup I guess.

    Its very common in Tamil nadu meals. I have heard that Rasam intake avoids cancer, not sure about the reality but its true as a genuine person told this to me.
