This recipe is a combination of toor dal with capsicum and tomatoes, which give a nice flavor to the dish. This protein rich dish, with goodness of capsicum tastes best with rotis or puris and is ideal for lunch.

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 capsicum
  • 1 tsp Bengal gram dal
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • 1 cup boiled toor dal
  • 2 green chillies
  • Salt and red chilli powder to taste
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • 3 tsp refined oil
  • Coriander for garnish
  • Few curry leaves

Method

Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin, mustard, urad dal, gram dal and curry leaves. When the dals start changing color, add chopped onions and fry for few minutes.

Add slit green chillies and chopped tomato. Fry till tomatoes are done. Sprinkle salt and red chilli powder as per taste. Pour 2 cups of water, boiled and mashed toor dal. Mix well.

Cover the lid and bring to boil. Simmer with lid on for 2-3 minutes. Now add capsicum (cut into small cubes), coriander powder, cumin powder and cook for another 2 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
