Dal Pongal is a very popular, healthy south indian receipe. It is traditionally prepared during Pongal festival. Usually it is served as breakfast, however you can have it in lunch, if you are looking for light lunch.

Serves: 2
Ingredients
- Rice: 1 cup
- Moong dal: 3/4 cup
- Water: 4 cups
- Pepper corns: 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
- Cashew nuts: 10-15
- Oil: 1 tsp
- Curry leaves: few
- Salt: to taste.
Method
1. Wash rice and dal and cook them together in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles.
2. For tempering, heat oil and when the oil is hot, add cashew nuts, cumin seeds, pepper corns and curry leaves.
3. Now add this tempering and salt, to the cooked rice and dal mixture and mix well.
4. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
